Staying Safe In the Sun

As all of us Aussie's know, healthy skin is key to a healthy life here in Australia, which means sunscreen is a must. We call it 'Slip! Slop! Slap!',

With the geographical location of Australia in consideration and the intensity of the sun because of this, Australia sunshine is not only warm and beautiful, but also harmful for one's skin. Australia still holds the title for the highest rate of skin-cancer in the world and because of these we put a high stress of sun safety to both of our country's residents as well as visitors and tourists and another thing to watch out for is Australia's intense heat during the summer months.

Here are some tips to follow when travelling to Australia that even our own citizens follow day to day:

  • Wear sunscreen on any exposed skin when outdoors.
  • Don't forget to wear sunscreen on your face that is at least SPF 30 or higher.
  • It is advised to wear a hat when outdoors.
  • Be sure that your sunglasses have UV protection lenses.
  • Keep hydrated. Drink plenty of water.
  • Wear breathable fabrics, such as cotton, to keep cool during the warmer months.
  • Be sure to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours on average. Less frequently for cooler days, more frequently when sweating or swimming.
  • Try not to stay in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
